Masjid Bilal

In 1993, the Islamic Society of Cumberland, a federally registered non-profit charitable organization located in the East of Ottawa (Canada) purchased a house to be used as a Masjid. This house was established as Masjid Bilal. Masjid Bilal now accommodates 700 people, has accommodations for Islamic classes for approx 150 children, funeral facilities, a reference library and many other features.

By the grace of Allah SWT, we secured the next door property to Masjid Bilal last November 2013. However, we had to do that by taking out an interest free loan (Qard-e-Hasna).

Now is the time to repay this loan.

Our fundraiser dinner held on the 19th of January was a very well-attended program and we raised $70,000 on that night. With these funds our Qard Hasan (interest free loan) amount has reduced to $230,000 now.

We're continuing our fundraiser online until the 3rd of February just to reach $75,000.

Some Background

Last Ramadan (back in July 2013) we got an opportunity of expanding our parking lot area when the next door property at 4499 Innes Rd. came up for sale. It was offered to us at $500,000.

This is the same property that Masjid Bilal had been trying to purchase since 1997!

We have been wanting this property in order to maximize the space for formal parking and any other future use.

Elhamdulillah, on the 8th of November 2013 we secured the property. We were able to raise $150,000 in such a short period of time.

However, for the remainder of the amount, $350,000, we borrowed it interest free.
