ISK Expansion project
The Islamic Centre of Kingston
A Place for Youth to Call Home
"I was 12 years old when I came to Kingston. There's been in my tenure in Kingston times when I was not so active in my prayers and in other social aspects ... I remember growing up, one of the things I would always look forward to was having sleepovers as youth in the mosque ... even our imam would sometimes play basketball with us ..." Watch video for the remainder of Mohammed Butt's story.
As Kingston’s Muslim Community grows in numbers, we’re working hard to Support our Youth in Preserving their Muslim Identity. ICK Expansion Project raised over 85% of the needed funds for Phase 1. Help us by making a generous donation this Ramadan to reach our needed funds to start phase 1 of the expansion project.
"The ISK is a keystone of the Muslim community in Kingston, providing religious services, education, and a community hub for the local Muslim community. It engages in very crucial outreach to the wider Kingston community, with its interfaith and civic engagement. Travelers also benefit by being able to stop on their journeys between the metropolitan centres to pray in a masjid. I encourage everyone to contribute to its expansion needs."

"My relationship with the Kingston Muslim community is decades old. I have fond memories of the early days I used to visit the community for prayer gatherings, lectures, workshops and youth camps. It gives me a sense of pride to see the children of yesterday have developed into the leaders of tomorrow. Expanding their current facilities is a must to continue their quest for a bright future."

“The parable of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is that of a grain: it groweth seven ears, and each ear Hath a hundred grains. Allah giveth manifold increase to whom He pleaseth: And Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things.” -Surah Al-Baqara, 261
Our goal for Ramadan is to reach $50,000!
ISK is aiming to reach its goal of raising $500,000 for the ICK Extension Project in 2016. Alhamdulillah, the month of Ramadan is now upon us and our need for this extension could not be more apparent. It is wonderful to see the mosque radiant with the spirit of Islam at this time and all year round. However, we need more space to accommodate everyone as our community continues to grow and engage in the activities which are provided. In order to start the first phase of the ICK Extension Project, we are requesting donations from the community. Ramadan is an excellent time to donate as it puts us in the best position to increase our good deeds. All good deeds increase in value and acts of charity are certainly included. Donation boxes for the ICK Extension Project will be made available at the mosque during community Iftars, Jummah and Traweeh prayers.

ISK is Expanding
Since back in 1996 when the Islamic Society of Kingston established the Islamic Centre of Kingston, our community has expanded so much that it has grown beyond the centre’s current capacity. So, we began look to alternate areas to accommodate overflow of the prayer area during Friday prayers, Eid prayers, and community functions. The ISK is currently raising funds for an expansion to the masjid to address spacial concerns for functions such as: Major Community Events, Eid Prayers, and Islamic School Activities.
Just 1/3 remaining
Alhamdulillah, the response so far has been very heart warming: about 2/3 of the amount needed has been collected in the first day ... just $2150 to go. We also reached 37 building blocks.
Jazakum Allah Khieran!
Please share this campaign with your friends. Who knows, maybe it is someone you mention this project to who donates, and you get his/her reward as well, without anything being diminished from their reward.

Property Survey
As our community numbers are increasing, the area within our masjid needed to accommodate our needs will not be enough. We are looking to expand our masjid to add space for a gym, schooling, additional prayer area, and community space - Please see Background below for details.
To devise a suitable expansion plan for the needs of the ISK community, we need to conduct a survey of our property by a licensed company. The cost of the survey is $6000 and we are looking to raise this amount by the end of 2015.
Thank you for your Consideration

Background
We are working on an extension facility for the Islamic Centre of Kingston. The centre houses diverse activities that promote Islamic knowledge and provide support for the community members, especially the youth. The ISK strives to serve the religious and societal needs of its community members, and supports their integration into the Canadian society.
Growing Community
Our community, with its diverse needs, is growing beyond the centre’s current capacity. We decided to build an extension facility which will make it possible to house a multitude of activities that promote spiritual, intellectual, and physical engagement. A growing sector of this community that will benefit from this extension is our Muslim youth, whom we need to engage in a modern Islamic way of life.
The extension project, budgeted at $2,000,000, is currently in progress, and needs your financial support and donations. Every dollar you donate will contribute to a bigger space that will house a variety of spiritual, educational, and recreational activities for the young and old.
Our planned extension facility will include:
- Expanded prayer area
- Classroom space for over 100 students
- Library and office space
- Youth recreation area
- Body washing “ghosl” facility
- Community hall for meetings and social events
