Your Role as an Ambassador
- Invite people to the fundraising dinner
- Think of co-workers, neighbours, or friends in the city; talk highly of the upcoming dinner and its importance; invite them to attend
- If they can't make it to dinner, ask to donate online
- Invite people to the Special Jumah
- Maybe those you invited to dinner and didn't come would be willing to come to the special Jumah
- If they can't make it to the special Jumah, ask to donate online
- Market the campaign online
- Online campaign hosted at www.anfiq.org/darulkhair
- Three main channels: Social Media, E-mail, Mobile phone messages
- For you, this is personal, so make your message personal:
- Avoid making generic statements about your masjid's project; make your message personal
- Bad example: Darul Khair is counting on your generosity to raise funds to meet the deadline for the closing date of its new property. Please donate generously.
- Good example: Dear friends, I’m writing you today to ask you to consider making a contribution to my local masjid. We have been working for the past 5 years to establish a masjid in our locality to serve our growing numbers. People like myself have benefited a lot from its presence. My children go every week to learn the Quran ...
- Brainstorm who can help with this campaign as either a donor or a supporter
- Think of out-of-town and overseas friends and family members; what creative ways can you think of when approaching them for help:
- Best way: Ask directly
- If uncomfortable, ask for help spreading the message (it is an indirect way of asking to donate)
- Creative way: Send a personalized card in the mail
- Real-life story: Someone from Ottawa called an old friend (from back in the university days) who now lives in Saudi over the phone to help spread the word about his local mosque Ottawa; after hanging up, his friend in Saudi donated $500 online
- Do you know a celebrity, who can share the campaign link with his/her followers?
- What we mean: Someone with a lot of online followers (could be an imam or a known speaker with a lot of Facebook/Twitter followers)
- Where: Can be anywhere in the world
- Real-life story: Someone from a masjid project in Waterloo knew an Egyptian poet/artist who has a lot of Facebook followers (a mainly Arabic-speaking following); he asked him to share the masjid's campaign with his followers and say a few words of support, resulting in a very big donor turnout from abroad ($1000s donated)

Fundamental Principle
Ask and you Shall be Given!
Real-life Stories:
- Someone from a suburb of Ottawa sent an email to his friends asking to help his local masjid's campaign. He later found out that no one from his contacts had donated. So he sent another email to the same list complaining that no one had donated yet. 3 minutes later a $3000 donation came in.
- Someone from Ontario was visiting his daughter in Vancouver. One day when he was praying at the masjid near his daughter's house, he took permission to make an announcement after the prayer to get donations for his masjid in Ottawa. At a future date when he was visiting his daughter again, a man approached saying: "Weren't you the one who needed funds for your masjid project? Here I have $1000 for you."
- A president of a masjid in Ottawa once received a call from someone in Dubai saying that he had heard about his masjid's campaign. He asked a few questions about it. A short while later the president saw a $5000 online donation coming from Dubai.
Ultimate Campaign Goal
Everyone who hears about the project feels that they do not want to be left out
